Catalonia
Catalonia is an incredibly beautiful and varied area in Europe. Although the area is not enourmous, you can still experience so many different things, which is what we absolutely love about Catalonia. This includes everything ranging from Catalonia's beautiful beaches, the stunning mountains in the Pyrenees, the vibrant city life in Barcelona and Girona, and much, much more. So there are plenty of things to keep yourself busy with when visiting Catalonia.
Catalonias sandy beaches of the Costa Brava coast are located north of Barcelona, and Costa Daurada is located south of Barceleona. A few hours in the other direction are up to 3,000 meters altitude in the Pyrenees where there is plenty of opportunity for beautiful hiking, skiing in the winter and river rafting in the town of Sort. Catalonia is also a great place for cycling which includes everything from tough mountain rides, to family friendly routes both in the countryside and the fabulous city Girona. Not to mention there is also the vibrant city Barcelona, which is a must see city that combines culture, cafes, fabulous restaurants, football and a beachy atmosphere. We visit Barcelona 2-3 times a year since Sydens Feriehuse's early start in 2005, so we know the city very well and we give ongoing tips on our blog and Facebook.
It is also worth mentioning the regions fantastic weather and climate with more than 300 sunny days a year, which also provides the basis for a delicious wine production. The areas Penedés and Priorát are the best known wine regions, but wherever you choose to rent a house, there is no more than 30-40 minutes to the nearest vineyard, so you can have an authentic wine experience if you wish.
Catalonia has an excellent infrastructure, and the journey from the French border in the north, to the Valencian border in the south can be done in 3 hours and 10 minutes. Likewise, the distance from Barcelona on the coast to the border with the province of Aragón in the Pyrenees to the northwest is also approx. 3 hours. The point is that wherever in Catalonia you choose to rent a holiday home it will never be very far away, so it is always possible to arrange full or half-day trips to Barcelona, the beach or the mountains.
The Region Delta del Ebro
The southernmost part of Catalonia has Spain's wateriest and second-longest river "Ebro" as the focal point. We have spent a lot of time in this southern area, and we have to admit that we have become very fond of this area.
